Families Forward Grant Project Update

After a series of meetings with our mentors and organization partners, Helen and I have decided to focus our grant proposal project on the underfunded summer enrichment program at Families Forward.

Last year was the first year of implementation of this program at the organization, with 25-30 alumni children returning to the facility for LEGO robotics programming classes, the armory art center-sponsored projects, and more.

One major funding-related issue did, however, arise. The children coming to this afternoon program were coming hungry and would often ask about lunch at the program. There was only enough money allotted for nutrition for the program in the form of small afternoon snacks.

Many of the children attending families forward’s programs receive breakfast and lunch from their schools during the school year. Yet when school lets out for the summer, these children are often left hungry. Our project seeks to alleviate this need, and our next steps include calculating cost for this project.
