Affordable Housing
Recently two fellow Global Scholars hosted an event discussing affordable housing entitled "The Housing Crisis: Why Affordable Housing Starts in Your Backyard." The event hosted a panel of different perspectives on the housing crisis issue as well as partnered with Inquilinos Unidos to provide a short multilingual presentation, introduction to the issues and panelists, Q&A, and dinner and socialization period.
The event was incredibly eye-opening, as I heard from perspectives ranging from an architect working with affordable housing projects, a Pasadena government official, and Inquilinos Unidos director.
What was perhaps most compelling about the event was the part in which I got to hear from the various community members affected most by Prop 10 and the housing crisis locally. Their stories were moving and really showed me the personal aspects behind the issues, and I am grateful for the opportunity to engage with these people in this way.
